Force AutoComplete Always on

Because it seems to be a trend for almost every big website to turn auto-complete off by default and I wanted to counter this unsafe trend, I decided to make my little script that turns auto-complete on by default public! Use this with care! Install the Greasemonkey plugin into your webbrowser and surf to this link and click install to install my Force AutoComplete Always on script. By the way, I’m only testing this on Firefox with Greasemonkey, but it should also work on other webbrowsers.

The hidden pm-utils hdparm parameters

I had to dig around quite a lot to discover where pm-utils sets the hdpram parameters every time a system boots or comes from sleep. It turns out to be in /usr/lib64/pm-utils/power.d/harddrive I’m not explaining this any further, because you should be able to figure out what this does on your own, if not, then you should not edit this file because you could do damage to your system! For more info, see this link.

Inside the secret world of hackers

The Guardian has a nice article about the world of hackers that’s really worth reading. However, the title is somewhat misleading, because there is nothing that’s really secret about the world of hackers. Have fun reading it!

Sleeping Linux on lid close

You can use all sorts of power managers to do this. The big problem with this is that they will only work when the power manager is running. If it crashes and you’re not paying attention, you’ll have an empty battery the next time you open your laptop so we need something different. Fortunately acpid, which is shipped with most distro’s, provides us with that tool! All the configuration of acpid is stored in /etc/acpi so we can easily adjust this. Most of the time, you’ll only need to adjust the file acpi_handler.sh. The trick is to change the switch

Using minicom with Arduino compatibles

Reading output from an Arduino compatible device with minicom is works out of the box. Writing to it over serial via minicom is a different story, but it boils down to using the right settings. Start minicom and hit ctrl+a (optional: now hit z to get the available commands) and hit o. This will get you to the configuration screen. Select “Serial port setup” and configure all the options like this: Serial device: /dev/ttyUSB0 Bps/Par/Bits: Bps to whatever you’ve set in the code, but Par and Bits must be 8N1 Hardware flow control: No Software flow control: No Now you

LulzSec and why they did the “right” thing

If you still think badly about LulzSec and the hacks on sony, you should probably read this. They aren’t the bad guys, they merely issued a warning to everyone, nothing more and nothing less.

Someone over at Google had a lot of fun.

If you are a programmer, you should get your fair share of memes from time to time. However someone over at Google certainly had a lot of fun with this video. Watch the progress bar below the video and notice there’s no other video that has this. The thing is even passed to the embed player. This makes me wonder what other tricks they have up their sleeve if you’re willing to pay a lot of money. This certainly would be applicable to more video’s right? I find it very funny that they show a discrete glimpse of the towering
